A few things to remember for this week:
Tuesday, October 20,
everyone needs to be at school by 6:30 so we can leave in time to catch the
9:30 ferry from Pier 41
For the trip, dress your
children in layers and pack extra food and water; it will be a long day with
plenty of built in opportunities for snacking

"Today
at Choice, I looked through the Lego bin and found a few pieces which I put
together. Then, we made an arena out of Magnetiles and played table hockey. We
could only use our breath to push the puck around," said Ronan.
“This
morning, we looked at our crayon drawings from yesterday. We found that we
think the drawings with more color are more beautiful, like our class is made
up of a lot of different colors, ideas, beliefs, and ages. Together, our class
is beautifully different,” reflected Michelle.
“Today
Somanna, Bailey's little sister, and I went to our course. I was looking at the
other groups for a while. Then I realized what time it was and ran up to my
Friday course. I got sidetracked by Ava and Jazzy. Then, I went back downstairs
to my group,” explained Samantha.
For our Immigration theme, the students have been putting together great
little skits to act out the scenes from the book Kai’s Journey to Golden
Mountain this past week. We’ve been doing this to try to understand what
immigrants might have felt or experienced as they traveled from China to Angel
Island, and ultimately to their new homes in the 1930s. On Tuesday at the Angel
Island Visitor’s Center and Immigration Station, students will learn more about
the real people that traveled for weeks on ships and may have spent days, weeks,
or months on the island waiting to be officially accepted into the United
States.
This week, our writers will learn to assess their own
writing, and how to offer “friendly feedback” to other young writers. 1. Listen
2. Compliment 3. Ask questions to invoke revision
1. Escuchar Piropo 2. 3. Haga preguntas para invocar la revisión
Later this week, we will
begin our Trees of Life to show our family members and ancestors in a
traditional Mexican clay sculpture. If you want to help prep clay slabs, come
play with me after school on Wednesday, October 21 in Room 3!
