Hooray! We've begun student blogging! Several afternoons a week, students take turns dictating something about their day to me and I write it on the board with spelling, capitalization, and punctuation mistakes. Then, the students are called upon to make corrections. If they're not reading yet or don't notice any mistakes, they are encouraged to ask for help. There are several learning outcomes to this classroom ritual:
- students practice respectful listening to one another
- students practice reflecting on their days and finding 'the main point' or highlight (getting them ready to recognize main points in written paragraphs)
- students practice their proofreading skills and learn from each other spelling, capitalization, and punctuation skills
- students become comfortable with asking for help (believe me, this is a skill that teens have difficulty with, so when non-judgmental responses are offered, they are more likely to do this when the stakes are higher than placing commas in the right places!)
- students practice speaking in front of the group, building confidence and meeting the Listening and Speaking standards related to English Language Arts and English Language Development.

This Friday is our first field trip! We'll have brunch at 9:30 and leave for DeLaveaga Park at 10:00. We'll walk with the Sky and Ocean classes and, in multi-age groups rotate through four activities. Lunch and free play will be in the schedule too! Michelle E has agreed to deliver watermelon at 2:30, pick up time. Please pick up your child from DeLaveaga Park at 2:30 on Friday, September 18.
Este viernes es nuestro primer viaje de campo! Tendremos el almuerzo a las 9:30 y vamos para DeLaveaga Parque a las 10:00. Vamos a caminar con las clases cielo y el océano, y en grupos de varias edades giran a través de cuatro actividades. Almuerzo y juego libre serán en el horario también! This week we will have our first Library with Jolene day, learn a new PE game, and assemble our Science Notebooks for our Citizen Science projects.

The students and teachers are mostly finished with placement assessments for Communication and Math workshops. The teachers have agreed to volunteer their only unencumbered Wednesday afternoon to analyze data in order to balance the needs of individual and groups of students, while taking into consideration limited family involvement during classroom hours. The students and teachers appreciate your efforts and participation in the academic and social emotional development of the children and Monarch community.
Los estudiantes y los profesores son en su mayoría terminaron con las evaluaciones de colocación para los talleres de Comunicación y Matemáticas. Los maestros han acordado voluntariamente su única comprometido miércoles por la tarde para analizar los datos con el fin de equilibrar las necesidades de los individuos y grupos de alumnos, teniendo en cuenta la participación familiar limitada durante las horas de clase.
